The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have collaborated to commence an intensive vehicle database integration of the two government agencies.

A joint statement by the FRSC Corps Public Enlightenment Officer, Bisi Kazeem and the National Public Relations Officer of NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the collaboration was effected during the official visit of the acting Comptroller General of NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to the FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, in Abuja yesterday.

Adeniyi said the visit was to renew the NCS commitment towards working together with the corps in the area of human resource development, information and communication technology, as well as sports.

He said an effective consolidation of existing vehicle information in the National Vehicle Identification Scheme database domiciled with the FRSC and vehicle database of the NCS would curb vehicle smuggling, improve revenue generation and enhance national security.

While responding to the NCS boss, the Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, noted that the collaboration as well as data sharing would not only strengthen the bond between the two agencies but also positively impact the fight against the smuggling of vehicles.

He called on the Customs Service boss to make the restriction of importation of vehicles whose ages at the point of importation are above the specified age limit one of his key priorities.

While decrying the dangers of using fairly used tyres, Biu also sought enhanced enforcement of the ban on the importation of deadly tyres into the country.
