The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged Nigerians to re-adopt the use of the bicycle as a means of transportation because of its health benefits and economic value.
The Bayelsa State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Ibrahim Usman, said this yesterday during the awareness ride to commemorate the third World Bicycle Day in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Represented by Mrs. Mirian Benemesegha, Deputy Corps Commander, Usman said that bicycle transportation is cheaper and healthier for the physical wellbeing of the body.
According to him, it was ideal to re-adopt the bicycle system of transportation which has assisted human civilisation for ages.
He said: “Advanced countries have re-adopted bicycle transportation systems as a matter of public health, wellbeing, and control of greenhouse effects of carbon emissions.”
