The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, said the Corps will commence a clampdown on motorists conveying fuel in their vehicles.

Mathew disclosed this in Benin on Tuesday while addressing motorists during the ember months campaign in the state.

He said the clampdown became necessary following incessant incidents of vehicles being caught in flames during accidents as a result of fuel in their vehicles.

“It is very wrong for drivers to embark on a journey with a Jerry can containing fuel inside their vehicles,” the FRSC official said.

“So, we are going to arrest motorists who are travelling with Jerry cans of fuel in their vehicles,” he said. He disclosed that during the ember months, a Mobile Court would be set up to try traffic rule violators.
