Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that his administration will implement the recent Supreme Court judgment on the state’s political crisis “without reservations.”
In a state broadcast on Sunday, Fubara acknowledged his disagreement with the ruling but affirmed his commitment to upholding the law. However, he stated that necessary actions would only be taken after his legal team has reviewed the judgment’s implications.
“We are all aware of the recent Supreme Court judgments regarding aspects of the lingering political disputes in our dear state,” he said. “Although we disagree with the judgments, we are bound to obey the orders as a law-abiding government.”
He reiterated that his administration has always operated within the framework of the constitution, due process, and the rule of law. While acknowledging human fallibility, he maintained that the government had not deliberately violated legal principles.
Fubara disclosed that his legal team expects to receive certified copies of the judgment by Friday, March 7, after which he will examine its implications before proceeding with implementation.
Meanwhile, in compliance with the ruling that invalidated caretaker arrangements in local government administration, the governor directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to assume control of the 23 local government councils pending fresh elections. Outgoing chairmen were instructed to formally hand over to the HLGAs by Monday, March 3.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities, assuring them that his government remains committed to fulfilling its responsibilities.
