A group known as the Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative (EUYI) has rejected the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command’s plea to cancel its planned protest against the recent petrol price hike.
The group, which represents vulnerable Nigerians, insists that the protest will go ahead as scheduled on Thursday, September 19, 2024, despite the police citation of a court order banning protests in Abuja.
“We will not be silenced or intimidated. The suffering of our people demands urgent action, and we will take our destinies into our hands.
“A court order cannot feed our families or put fuel in our tanks,” EUYI National Coordinator, Comrade Danesi Momoh Prince, said.
EUYI National Secretary, Igwe Ude-Umanta, said: “We demand a thorough cleansing of the petroleum sector to end the unnecessary suffering of Nigerians.”
EUYI attributed the increasing cases of suicide among Nigerians to the unbearable economic conditions.
“We will not be deterred by threats or intimidation.” The group added.
The group has mobilized its members and allies to converge at the NNPCL Towers in Abuja.
