Black marketers have taken over petrol business in Jos, Plateau State capital, as scarcity of the commodity hits the state.

Our correspondent reports that all none of the filling stations Jos is dispensing the product, a development that has led to the black marketers hiking the price.

Although no filling station was seen selling the product, black marketers were seen cashing in on the situation by selling in jerry cans and gallons on major roads and streets.

One of the black marketers, Abubakar Muhammad, said, “We buy a litre from filling stations at the rate of N1,600 and sell it at N1,800. We have nothing to do than to sell it at that price because we bribe the attendants at the filling stations.

Another black marketer, Abdullahi Isma’il, explained that, “The fuel is costly because the owners of the filling stations are hoarding the product. Even when they bring it, they hoard it and increase the price before they sell it.”
