Fuel scarcity: DPR introduces open and close system in Maiduguri

The DPR’s Zonal Coordinator, Mohammed Usman, told Kanem Trust that the measure was gradually making the long queues to disappear, hence releasing tension. “It would help us to check those who hoard products. It will also allow us monitor the sales of the products at approved pump prices. The problem in Borno State is terrible. Maiduguri and Bama operators are really giving tasking us”, the Zonal Coordinator lamented.

Kanem Trust reports that though the DPR monitors petroleum products distribution and sale at approved pump prices, based on supplies to Maiduguri, the DPR seemed constraint because some independent marketers have devised a new means of evading monitoring as some of them obtain products from sources other than NNPC and PPMC and hence information regarding allocations to them are not available to the DPR’s task force.

Kanem Trust’s reporter observed that a cat and mouse game is often being played between the DPR officials and some marketers as some of the marketers run away from their stations or the task force officials trace operating stations, immediately storm the place to enforce sales at N65 per litre and also ensure there is no hoarding of fuel.

Notwithstanding the measures, fuel scarcity has remained in many parts of Maiduguri with PMS selling at N600 a gallon on the road side as against N400.
