The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Kano state command has inaugurated a task force committee to monitor distribution and sale of petroleum products in the state with a view to alleviating hardship caused by the recent scarcity of the product.

Speaking during the inauguration of the committee, the State Commandant of the Corps, Muhammad Yusha’u Aliyu said the major task before the committee was to cooperate with executive of Petroleum Investment Management Company (PPMC), Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) and Department of Petroleum Recources (DPR) in ensuring that the petrol meant for Kano gets to its designated places.

He also charged the committee to ensure that the product was sold at an official price of N145 per litre.

“Stop any form of diversion and selling of the product in jerry cans. You should monitor movement of trucks from NNPC up to designated filling stations and ensure that the whole content is discharged according to the manifest,” he said.

The committee was charged to stop unnecessary delay in discharging the product at filling stations, noting that, “Some marketers have developed the culture of using only one nozzle whereas they have more than 10 discharging nozzles in their stations. They are doing that just to create unnecessary delay, thereby prolonging the scarcity. This is unacceptable and we will sanction the defaulters according to the provisions of the laws.”

The 7-man committee headed by ASP Usman Ibrahim is expected to report to the state command on daily basis.
