The Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF), a non-profit organisation, has raised over N1.2 billion between 2021 and 2022 to support vulnerable groups in the country.

Though the N1.2bn raised is 60.42 per cent of its N2bn annual target, it has vowed to forge partnerships with more individuals and corporate organisations to achieve the annual target in order to support the vulnerable through various programmes to tackle poverty, lack of access to basic healthcare, among others.

The General Manager/CEO of the fund, Dr Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, at a media briefing in Lagos, noted that the NGO, chaired by Babatunde Folawiyo, Chairman Global Citizen Nigeria, is committed to the reduction of poverty among Nigerians.

According to her, it is unacceptable that almost 50 per cent of Nigerians (95.1 million) live in extreme poverty, hence the decision of like-minded individuals to come together in 2020 to start the NSSF with a view to complement government’s efforts at tackling poverty.

In addition to poverty alleviation, the fund, the GM said, intervened in the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the post-pandemic response by supporting the vulnerable in addition to sponsoring vaccination of 1.6 million people, while over 12 million Nigerians were reached with vaccine advocacy programmes.
