A report on the 2016 sustainability index for sub-Saharan Africa revealed that the financial viability of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Nigeria has declined as donor funding continues to decline.

Presenting the report during a one-day dissemination workshop organised by Centre for Research and Documentation (CRD) for CSOs in the Kano state, Umar Yakubu Ibrahim of Federal University Dutse stated that, the dissemination workshop is to present to the various organisations in the state the 2016 sustainability index report which is the latest for them to understand their level of sustainability and the future of their survival.

The report also revealed that apart from the decline in donor’s funding, decline in the nation’s economy had also contributed in discouraging the development of local sources of funding with an exception in the northeast region of the country.

The report funded by United State Agency for International Development (USAID) rated CSO’s sustainability as evolving even though the financial viability index of the sector is impeded in the year under review.
