The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has urged the national leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) to refrain from making what it described as unsubstantiated allegations against the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Wole Balogun, the University said it was concerned about reports linking Professor Fasina to alleged political activities ahead of upcoming elections in Ekiti State.

The statement described the claims as unfounded, noting that the Vice-Chancellor remains focused on his duties as an academic administrator.

According to the University, an internal meeting of staff held on October 14, 2025, and chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Ndoma Egba (SAN), was disrupted by some individuals, a situation that drew the attention of security agencies. The statement added that the relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have since invited the parties involved for questioning.

FUOYE emphasised that Professor Fasina has maintained a record of integrity in his academic and public service career, citing his previous assignment as an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer during a governorship election, which it said was widely commended for transparency.

The University reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order within the institution and called on SSANU to ensure that its engagements with management are conducted responsibly and in the interest of industrial harmony.

It added that FUOYE remains open to constructive dialogue with all staff unions while warning that any further spread of false or misleading information could attract appropriate institutional response in line with due process.
