FUTO VC warns new students against social vices

The Vice Chancellor of the institution Profesor Chigozie Asiabaka, at the 32nd Matriculation, charged the new students to shun all enticements to irresponsible and unwholesome lifestyles and antisocial activities.
He said: “Offences like examination malpractices, cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, drug addiction, fighting, extortion, vandalism, use of dangerous weapons, sexual harassment, rape, threat to lives are classified as gross misconduct and punishments that include expulsion, rustication and possible prosecution in the court depending on the gravity of the offence committed by students.”
Professor Asiabaka said in FUTO, there is no room for laziness, indolence and all forms of indiscipline, noting that “the institution does not take kindly to acts that have the tendency to disrupt or tamper with its peace, stability and pursuit of academic and administrative services for which the university was established.”
He therefore enjoined the new students to resist all lusts to indecent dressing, drunkenness and transient pleasures like sexual immorality which he said can expose them to sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancy or untimely death.
He reminded the 5,075 matriculated students that they have limited time to be on campus in pursuit of their studies, stressing that the management of the university is determined to give emphasis on the objectives for which the university was founded in 1980.
