G-23 threatens to boycott elections over ‘disenfranchisement’ of members

Speaking with newsmen yesterday in Kaduna, the chairman of the group, Lucky Olaitan said the group has a numeric strength of over 300,000 and majority of them could not locate their names as they were told that their names have been mistakenly deleted from INEC system.
“We have toured 23 local government areas of Kaduna State to sensitize our members on the forth-coming election and our alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but the results we got at some registration units is disappointing. We went to Chikun local government to be precise, Ungwan Michibi Ward Unit 002 where we were told that all the people registered in the Unit who are mostly our members have been wiped out from the database and there is no way they can be recaptured.
“What the electoral body is telling us now is that these Nigerians are automatically disenfranchised and will not have a saying over who governs them, and we as grassroots political parties will not fold our arms and watch this illegality come to play. We will not participate in the elections unless INEC provides alternative voting means for our members whose names have disappeared from the database,” he said.
