Distributing the vehicles to the beneficiaries in Kano, Dr Gawuna said each of the 11 wards of the local government got a motorcycle, which he said would help them patrol the nooks and crannies of their localities.

Gawuna also revealed that apart from the van and the motorcycles the vigilante members received from his council, they also benefited from free mobile telephones and recharge cards that would enable them communicate effectively during emergencies.

The local government boss said the council also distributed six crop sprayers and six water pumps to farmers in the local government, noting that the gesture was targeted at improving dry season farming activities in the local government.

According to him, the crop sprayers would result in quality yield while the water pumps would help in reducing the farmers’ suffering toward a bumper harvest. “We give you these farming implements in order to encourage you improve the outcome of your produce during dry season. I will be happy if you would make our council proud at the end of the season,” he said.

He also said his council had committed a large amount of money to compensate fire disaster victims. “One of the victims of the fire disaster got up to N400,000, while others also got their fair share depending on the gravity of the damage the fire had caused them,” said the chairman.
