Gabriel was elected unopposed by union members at the fourth quadrennial conference of the union which held at the Labour House in Abuja on Wednesday.
Also elected unopposed were Habiba Adekunle as vice chairperson, Nwoha Godwin as general secretary and Idriss Hassan Abdulrahman as treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, Gabriel stated his commitment to the unity of the union, promising that all his actions would be guided by the wishes of union members, stressing that the new leadership will run the activities of the union with fairness, equity and justice for all. .
“This is a victory for the sustenance of our struggle; a victory which all FIRS staff irrespective of creed, ethnicity or state of origin should celebrate. It is a triumph for our common destiny as a people with shared ideals, shared dreams and shared hopes,” he said.
He assured members that the new executives will ensure the sustenance of the harmonious relationship that exists between the management of FIRS and workers.
