Suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgents are currently attacking the headquarters of Gaidam local government in Yobe state, Daily Trust learnt.
Details of the attack remained sketchy at the time of filing this report but gun shots and explosions were still ongoing, a resident said.
Daily Trust gathered that the attackers stormed the town around 4:30 pm through the eastern part of the town in hilux vans and motorcycles.
A resident, Malam Lawan said it was a surprise attack because residents had expected it long before now which led many of them to flee to relatively secured towns and villages close to Gaidam.
“It took people by surprise because; weeks ago many people went on exile when a neighboring town was attacked by the insurgents. It’s quite unusual hour and the least expected day because this was expected long ago,” he said.
He said that some people in the town have fled to the nearby bush for safety.
