The Galma multipurpose dam would improve the economic value of the people of Kaduna State with special focus on irrigation farming, water supply and hydropower generation.  
Ochekpe undertook an inspection tour of the multipurpose dam in Kubau Local Government of the state with Governor of Kaduna last week.
She said the presidential mandate to the ministry was to ensure completion of ongoing projects instead of embarking on new ones. “That is why we gave all the necessary support towards the completion of this project. We are glad that it has reached 95 per cent completion for the dam”, she said.
According to her, the hydropower component of the dam would generate about 2.5 megawatts being the core desire of government to see that the rural communities are well developed so that the country would have a staple crop processing zone.
She also explained that compensation had been paid to most communities of about 14 kilometer radius to the dam. However, “we have observed that there is a challenge as a number of villages will have to be resettled because their homes have been affected and also pipelines have been affected and we will relate with relevant agencies to see what can be done for immediate remedy and long term remedy in this situation,” she promised.
The Governor of Kaduna Sate, Alhaji (Dr.) Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its commitment towards the completion of the Galma multipurpose dam as it would increase the level of water supply through the transfer of water to Zaria dam for the benefit of the people.
He said that the state government was working to complement the federal government’s efforts towards provision of water to the people of the state through financing the water treatment plant in the state to supply about 150 million litres per day.
