Ganduje is working; Kano is changing

Presently, it is an interesting feature in Kano State that a number of, or almost all roads irrespective of their locations are being flooded with removed debris that hitherto blocked waterways and causing unnecessary flooding during rainy season. Equally of note is the coming onboard of the state’s sanitation board, REMASAB in a round-the-clock evacuation of the removed dirt from numerous and uncountable culverts and drainages across the metropolis. This innovative development embarked upon on the removal of dirt and other unwanted items that blocked water-ways, drainages and culverts in the state capital is not only a good omen to free flow of rain but will significantly improve the health of the local populace having found ourselves in the midst of the problem.

One can state unequivocally without fear of contradiction that Kano had never got it so right since the Administrations of two former executives led by the Late Governors Audu Bako and Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi who had championed the cause of regular and sustained policy of ensuring a cleaner environment – and subsequently a healthier society!  Other than these past leaders no leadership in the state have accorded the needed attention to the health of people through indirect or direct evacuation of garbage, dirt from culverts and other refuse dumping sites like Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.  We must thump up his leadership qualities and strategies for the feat so far achieved in this direction.  It is to the credit of KNSG policy that the proliferation of malaria sickness that bedeviled and become rampant in the state is becoming a thing of the past having been tamed by a people-oriented policy, what a wonderful approach!

Consequently, success so far achieved in waste/anticipated flood management by Governor Ganduje has left his critics wagging in disbelief.

It is an interesting feature to visit communities such as Gwauron-Dutse, Jakara, Mandawari Sabon Titi, Kofar Mazugal down to Gwammaja for one to acknowledge the level of sanitary work taking place in these areas. Commercial areas such as Sabon Gari Market, Murtala Muhammed Way, Ibrahim Taiwo road, all axis of Fagge and Kantin Kwari markets are not only receiving the needed attention of garbage cleaning and evacuation of dumped refuse in the culverts but are becoming cynosure of eyes in terms of water passage! It is quite a shocking revelation that not all youths knew that a 2-way gutter exist at both sides of the over 4 kilometer stretch Aminu Kano Way until now having been blocked for over two decades.

Furthermore, visitors and local residents of the entire metropolis of Kano were shock with the quantum quantity of debris being evacuated from the blocked gutters scattered all over the state capital. Had it been the leadership of REMASAB is not equal to the task, Kano would have been another discovery of the Ajegunles or erstwhile Marokos! Alas Governor Ganduje has foreseen the danger of having blocked drainages and culverts not only during the rainy season but had acted swiftly to the admiration of all.

Economically, this current tempo of rejigging the sanitary condition of the entire metropolis and other urban areas in the state is empowering the citizenry having been engaged to handle the exercise.

The past and unimpressive narration of dirt and filth that litters the metropolis especially within the nooks and crannies of the old Kano city is being transformed to a cleaner and healthier society capable of competing with any developed or cleanest clime, an attempt to surpass the cities of Geneva and Dubai in no distant future! Governor Ganduje’s Administration policy of “Lungu Kal-Kal and Karkara Salamu Alaikum” has proved opposition to be a bunch of toothless bulldogs having allowed sentiments to becloud objective sense of reasoning in return of materials reward from God fathers.
