Kano state government has paid N300m allowance to Kano indigene students studying El-Razi University in Khartoum, Sudan.

The Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, who stated this said the beneficiaries were expected to graduate in May 2019.

Rurum said there were 31 students in the university from Kano out of which 28 studying medicine, while the remaining three were studying pharmacy.

He said each student got a sum of 2479 dollars as allowances.

Rurum said with payment of N300m, the state government had so far paid N2bn to Kano students in Sudan since its inception.

The speaker, who spoke to Daily Trust on phone from Sudan, said he led a delegation from Kano purposely to pay the outstanding fees and other allowances to Kano indigenes.

The delegation met with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of El-Razi University, Prof Ibrahim Ghandour, and the President of El-Razi University Prof Ahmad Othman Riziq respectively.

Rumum commended the management of university for the special regard its according to the Kano students.

In their separate remarks, Chairman of Board of Trustees and President of the institution, Prof Ghandour and Prof Riziq expressed their gratitude to the Kano state government for sponsoring its students to the university.

They attested that some Kano indigenes were among the best in the school in terms of academic performance and good behaviour.

He promised the management of the university would look into the scholarship requested by Kano state government.

The leader of Kano indigene students, Mallam Sadiq Abdullahi Ubajalli Gwale who spoke on behalf of the students, thanked governor Ganduje for offsetting their tuition fees and allowances.

Gwale assured that they would remain grateful to Ganduje and Kano state government for the gesture.

“I am glad to inform the governor and the good people of Kano state that our colleagues, Ibrahim Khalil Sabo and Ismail Mukhtar have emerged overall best medical and pharmacy students respectively,” he said.
