Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has advised the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to liaise with states  in its struggle to enthrone autonomy for local governments across the country.

A statement issued by NULGE office in Abuja, said Ganduje told the local government workers, who were led by the NULGE President, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, on a nationwide rally on LG autonomy to the North-West zone, that the struggle for local government autonomy could only be successful if they liaised with the “power that be,” because it required their attention to make the needed changes.

He listed the National Assembly, the president, and most importantly the state governors and the states houses of assembliy  as critical to the success of their struggle.

The  governor said: “We appreciate your problem and we know that your problems cannot be solved unless you undertake the exercise you are undertaking now because it will require advocacy, it will require public enlightenment, it will require the attention of the power that be as far as reviewing the constitution is concerned. 

“It requires the National Assembly, it requires Mr. President, it requires the state governors, it requires the state legislators. All these must agreed so that our constitution can be reviewed in your favour,” he said.
