Ganduje urged to order destruction of seized products

The Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has been urged to ensure that substandard products due for expiration by January next year seized by the Kano State Consumer Protection Council are destroyed.
The call was made by the Network for Justice in a statement signed by its executive director Mallam Bala Abdullahi. He explained that the consumer council had In May this year confiscated Olivary Gum products imported into Kano and since then, some influential people in the state were pressuring the consumer protection council to release the product.
“The seized imported products are said to lack all known safety trademark, including such basic information as the name and address of the manufacturer and NAFDAC authorization particulars and worse still, the product is due for expiration in January 2016.”
Bala added that it was based on this that they were calling on the governor to safeguard the lives of his subjects by ordering the council to destroy the products to foil the effort of those with vested interest who were pressurizing for its release.
