Ganduje: We’re shocked court prevented arrest of impostors behind fake suspension – APC Secretary

Senator Ajibola Basiru

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has reacted after a High Court in Kano State granted an exparte order restraining the Police from inviting, arresting, and harassing the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward officers behind the purported suspension of Abdullahi Ganduje.

In a consolidated order granted by Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad on May 2, the court also restricted any attempt by the APC National Working Committee (NWC), State council of the party and APC acting National Chairman, from using security operatives to arrest or detain the supposed Ganduje ward executives, pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice.

Some persons who paraded themselves as executives of Ganduje ward had announced the suspension, which the party at all levels denied.

In the course of investigation, the party authorities had petitioned the Inspector General of Police, to demand a probe of the incident.

However, a court restrained the police from taking further actions on the issue.

Speaking during an interview with TVC on Thursday night, Ajibola expressed concerns about the development.

]He said: “Those that suspended the chairman of the party are not members of the exco at the ward level. They are meddlesome interlopers. The interlopers have no authority to raise allegations against Ganduje in the first place.

“And that was the basis upon which a petition was written to the Inspector General of Police to get the impersonators arrested. So I find it very shocking that a court of law will grant an interim injunction restraining the police from carrying out its role under the constitution and the police act to investigate allegations of criminal offenses and initiate prosecution subject to the overriding power of the Attorney General to discontinue such kind of prosecution.

“I think it is high time our judges need to be circumspect about granting such kinds of orders. To set the record straight, the position of the party is that those people purporting to say that they have suspended our national chairman in the first instance are not on the official list of the ward excos. We have the list of all the wards excos across the country emerging from congresses od the party held in the year 2022.”

When asked about the possibility of President Bola Tinubu reconciling Ganduje and the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, he said: “There is no basis for reconciliation because Kwankoso is not a member of APC. He is NNPP.”
