Special Assistant to Kano state governor on internal revenue matters, Alhaji Habibu Sale Mai Lemo has called on politicians aspiring for different political offices to focus on issue based campaigns rather than inflammatory comments that meant no well for the state and the nation in general.

Mai Lemo was speaking at a legislative town hall meeting organized by Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in collaboration with Enough is Enough Nigeria, held at Mambayya House yesterday.

He reminded politicians that their decisions were not just political decisions but go a long way in building and shaping a better society. He therefore urged party flag bearers to avoid inflammatory comments in order to ensure violent free elections.

“Our situation in Kano is such that social media platforms and some radio programmes have provided a fertile ground for hate speech vendors where inflammatory comments are traded. I want to call on you to avoid such inflammatory comments and focus on vibrant developmental policies,” he said

Mai Lemo then cautioned supporters, especially young people, to refrain from actions that could land them in trouble as those they were supporting often abandoned them and deny having any connection with their actions or inactions.

On the topic of the meeting, “The need for Debates During Electioneering Process”, Mai Lemo said effective debates could enable electorate make an informed decision about who to represent them, adding that northern states suffer a major set back by sending incompetent representatives.
