Iya Abershi Musa, an economic expert, has commended the efforts of Bitrus Lawrence Garki, Mandate Secretary Commissioner, FCT Area Council Service Secretariat (ACSS).

In an opinion piece, Musa said Garki, being a prominent figure in the FCT had embraced the mantle of leadership with a clear vision to empower the Area Councils, modernize their operations, and bridge the gap between residents and their local governance.

It reads: “Garki has expressed a resolute vision for 2025, aiming to make it a year of tangible impact and undeniable progress. He called for collective efforts to achieve meaningful advancements in the FCT, reinforcing his dedication to the region’s development.

“Since his appointment as the Mandate Commissioner, Bitrus Lawrence Garki has made significant strides in enhancing the quality of life for residents of the FCT Area Councils. Through his leadership, many projects aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare services, and education have been initiated or completed. His emphasis on transparency and accountability has helped build trust in the administration of the Area Councils, which is essential for effective governance at the local level.

“Garki has effectively carried out his responsibility to coordinate the operations of the FCT Area Councils, ensuring that they function smoothly and meet the needs of their constituencies. This includes facilitating the provision of services.

“In January 2025, Garki announced the commencement of the Area Council Cup, a sports competition aimed at fostering unity and promoting sportsmanship among the six FCT Area Councils. This initiative underscores his commitment to community development and youth engagement.
Garki has demonstrated a collaborative approach by working with national agencies to improve sports infrastructure. Notably, he praised the Chairman of the National Sports Commission for the reconstruction of the Apo field into a modern mini sports center, enhancing recreational facilities for FCT residents.

“In his capacity as Mandate Commissioner, Garki has been working closely with other government agencies, stakeholders, and local officials to formulate policies that address the socio-economic challenges faced by residents.”
