A gas tanker accident sparked panic in a Lagos neighbourhood on Monday, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene.
The incident occurred when the tanker, which was transporting Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinders, overturned along the main carriageway at Chisco, before the traffic light inward Victoria Island, Lagos.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by a hissing sound as gas began leaking from the tanker.
Residents and passersby quickly fled the area, fearing a potential explosion.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, and the Police, quickly arrived at the scene to contain the situation.
The responders worked to evacuate the area, divert traffic, and prevent any potential ignition sources from reaching the leaking gas.
As of the time of reporting, there were no confirmed casualties, but the incident has raised concerns about the safety of residents in the area.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the crash, saying that it occurred in the early hours of Monday.
