Gaza, Maku emerge, Labour Party’s guber, senate candidates in Nasarawa

The Labour Party has declared Hon. Jonathan Gaza, a third-term House of Representatives member for Karu/Keffi/Kokona, as its governorship candidate for Nasarawa State.

The party has also announced former Minister of Information Labaran Maku as its candidate for the Nasarawa North senatorial district, following primaries held on May 30, 2026.

Dr. Kalu Oke, who served as returning officer and chairman of the party’s electoral committee in Nasarawa, announced the results at a special nomination congress in Lafia.

He said Gaza contested unopposed for governorship and was “duly certified and affirmed” by majority of delegates in line with the Labour Party Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the party’s 2026 Electoral Guidelines.

“Accordingly, having satisfied all constitutional and procedural requirements, Hon. Gaza is hereby declared the winner and duly returned elected as the Labour Party governorship candidate for Nasarawa State,” Oke said.

He added that Gaza’s certificate of return would be presented at the party’s national office in Abuja.
Oke also announced that Labaran Maku, contested unopposed for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat and was similarly declared winner after meeting all constitutional and procedural requirements.

Maku is also on the ballot for the same Nasarawa North seat in the upcoming senatorial by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026, following the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.

In his speech, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Gaza pledged to deliver transformative leadership and end “business as usual” if elected.

He said the challenges the state has faced had made the people stronger. “By God’s special grace, we are going to win our election, we are going to make Nasarawa State much better,” he said.

Gaza described his candidacy as a “social contract” with the people and promised to harness the state’s human and natural resources for development.

“That which God has kept for the people of Nasarawa State, human, natural resources, amongst so many other things, as a team, we’ll put our heads together, and with the guidance of the Almighty God, we’ll give Nasarawa State a vibrant position where God has destined it to be,” he said.

He urged supporters to campaign peacefully and vote for the Labour Party, adding “Let us come out, campaign, vote, and elect Labour Party for the liberation and the transformation of Nasarawa State,” Gaza said.
