Some natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Gbagyi speakers have stressed the need for the teaching and learning of the language to ensure its preservation from extinction.

The Chairman, Centre for Gbagyi Language Development, Andrew Gaza, who made this known at a two-day orthography updating planning workshop in Abuja said the centre was working on the development of an approved curriculum and teacher’s guide for implementation in the first stage of primary education.

While appealing for the support of all and sundry he said there was a need for standardization and institutionalization of the language for it to take its place in the country.

He said the move by the centre would enhance the teaching and learning of the language by both Gbagyi and non-Gabgyi speakers in both formal and informal settings.
