A former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has lost his elder sister, Maryamu Lami Dimka.

Late Maryamu, who was the only surviving sister to Gen. Gowon, died on August 3 in a Jos hospital after six weeks of illness.

Elizabeth Rimdans, who is the first daughter of the deceased, confirmed the death to Daily Trust Saturday in Jos, adding that her mother left behind three children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Mrs Elizabeth described the death of their mother as a great loss to the family, explaining that “the loss of our mother cannot be quantified. We will live to remember her at all times. She is the kind of person who used to bring people together.”

Before her death, the late Maryamu was the wife of the late former Commissioner of Police, Mr S.K. Dimka, an active member and official of many organisations including the Nigeria Red Cross, Young Women Christian Association, the Bible Society of Nigeria, among others.
