The ban on sale of petrol in kegs by the Kaduna State government has taken effect in the metropolis with generator users grumbling over their inability to buy from fuel stations.

A survey carried out by Arewa Trust Weekly showed that most fuel stations in the metropolis are enforcing the ban insisting that generator users must carry their generating sets to fuel stations for refill.

A generator user, Abubakar Suleiman, who charges phones at Kawo, in Kaduna, said it has become difficult and expensive for him to move his generator to fuel stations all the time.

“I have to move my generator in a tricycle all the time to the fuel stations or else my business has to stop. My major problem is that when the petrol in my generator is about to finish and I have phones charging, I will have to turn off the generator then carry it to the fuel station,” he said.             

Another user, Musa Shehu, said he uses a generator at home when there is no electricity from the distribution company, but said the ban on the sale of fuel in kegs now makes it difficult for residents to enjoy light from their generators. “We have to carry our generators no matter how big to the fuel stations for a refill all the time,” he said.

Shehu added that some fuel stations even deny filling generator tanks and insist on dispensing fuel to vehicles and tricycles alone.
