German International Cooperation (GIZ), in collaboration with Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA), Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) and Water Users Association (WUA), has trained 5,000 tomato producers as out-growers for Dansa Tomato processing factory in Kano.
This was disclosed by the senior consultant, GIZ Nigeria Dr. Julius Ayeni, during the handing over of 16 Honda motorcycles to agricultural extension workers to surmount logistic bottlenecks.
He said in Nigeria, GIZ in collaboration with agricultural departments, is currently operating in nine states, adding that it has so far trained over 70,000 farmers across cocoa, rice and tomato value chain.
He further revealed that prior to the commencement of training of the 5000
farmers in state, the trainers went through selection, training processes and protocols.     
In his address while receiving the motorcycles, Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Nasir Gawuna, who was represented by the ministry’s
permanent secretary, Hajiya Binta Rabi’u, stated that the GIZ’s donation came when the state government was doing a lot to boost agricultural practices in the state.
She added that the state government had provided 400 motorcycles to agricultural extension workers and that the state government had also recently allocated N100 million to wheat farmers to encourage wheat farming.
