Ghana’s new president Nana Akufo-Addo said he would cut taxes to boost the economy on Saturday, as he took the oath of office in the capital Accra, according to news agency, Reuters.

"We will reduce taxes to recover the momentum of our economy," Akufo-Addo said. "Ghana is open for business again."

The 72-years old former opposition leader defeated former President John Dramani Mahama in Ghana’s general elections last December.

The major cocoa and gold exporter is half-way through a three-year aid programme with the International Monetary Fund to fix an economy dogged by high public debt and inflation, says Reuters.

His swearing-in ceremony was attended by 14 African heads of state, including Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
