Kannywood’s Hajiya Fati Muhammed, popularly known in the industry as Ladi-mutu-ka-raba, died last Saturday aged 53 after a protracted illness.

It could be recalled that the actress recently posted a video denying the news making rounds that she was in dare need of financial assistance and that an account had been opened in her name for fans and well-wishers to deposit monies. In the video that went viral, the actress described the news as the work of her enemies and urged the public to disregard the call.

Late Ladi was one of the women pioneers in the Hausa movie industry who contributed a lot to the development of Kannywood.

Producer and director Hassan Giggs described Late Ladi as a very accommodating individual. “I have worked with late Ladi on several films. She is a patient individual who knows what she is doing. She was an important pillar in the industry and her death has created a huge gap that can’t be filled within a short period. We pray for her soul to rest in peace.” he said.

Actress Asma’u Sani, late Ladi’s friend for over 25 years, said they were more than just friends. She described Ladi as a “dependable sister” who had contributed immensely to Kannywood’s development.

“Indeed, the history of Kannywood will never be complete without mentioning late Ladi’s contribution. She has been instrumental in the development of the industry to become what it is today. Her death is indeed a huge loss to all of us in the industry and the nation in general. We have been best of friends for over 25 years, and I have known her to be an easy-going person with a good sense of responsibility. Ladi is such a dependable sister, may Allah forgive all her shortcomings and may paradise be her final abode,” said Asma’u.

Fatima D Isa, known as Fati Asirka, said late Ladi has been like a mother to many actresses in the industry and her death was shocking to many of them, “I met her at a movie location when I was new in the industry and ever since, I have taken her to be like a mother because that was what almost everyone in the industry took her to be. She was so gentle and accommodating to all of us. Indeed, we feel her death and we will continue to pray for her. May God forgive all her shortcomings, amin,” she said.

Late Ladi died at her home living behind three children and 14 grandchildren. Before her death, she was a member of Kannywood Women Association of Nigeria. She was since buried according to Islamic rites and condolences have continued to pour in.
