Ginger: A likely foreign exchange earner

Dauda explained during a sensitization workshop for stakeholders in the ginger industry in Kwoi–Jabba Local Government Area of Kaduna State that the process of producing ginger at the moment was still manual which is why the country has remained backward in the area.
“Ginger production in Kaduna State has been discovered to possess both western scientific and traditional medicinal qualities.  It also is the best variety in the world market in terms of its aromatic nature.
“Cassava in the world market today sells for about N120,000 per ton, while ginger goes for about $3,000 per ton, this translates to N483,000. It will not be an overstatement therefore to say that if the production and exportation of ginger is vigorously pursued and regulated, it will one day overtake oil as the largest foreign exchange earner in our country Nigeria,” he said.
