The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old girl for allegedly stealing two children from the same parents at Umuezeala in Ehime Nbano Local Government Area of the state.
Police Commissioner Dasuki Galadanchi, said the girl was sent by her mother to steal the children in order for them to register her for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC). While one of the children has been recovered, the second is still with the traffickers.
While parading the suspect at the State Police Command, Owerri, Galadanchi wondered why a mother would send her child to go and steal children to register her for WAEC.
He said the suspect and those who bought one of the children from her, had confessed to the crime.
The father of the children, Anonyechukwu Nwoke, praised the Nigeria Police for restoring the family’s hope.
He appealed to the police to redouble their efforts to recover the second baby still in the hands of the traffickers.
