As the world celebrates the girl-child day 2019, the Trade Union Congress has called on the government to provide a befitting environment where a girl-child will not only learn how to read and write but acquire necessary skills.
The President of the TUC, Comrade Quadri Olaleye made the call when the Trade Union Congress Women Commission, engaged pupils, students from different schools within Abuja on a rally.
He stressed that parents must support the girl-child, “we must support them just like we give support to the male child.”
“They can also achieve what a male child can achieve, and we have to treat them equally, support them in education and also support them morally.”
To the government of Nigeria, he noted that it needs to do more on security, especially “protecting the schools where we have majorly the females and intensify efforts to rescue the girls that are still in the hands of the kidnappers.”
