The four winners at the recently concluded ‘Girls on Track’ motorsport have expressed their appreciation to the organisers of the karting competition sponsored by the Automobile Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN) for giving them the opportunity to be a part of the competition.

Nice Hercules who spoke on behalf of the quartet said it was her first international karting competition.

She said “all participants, especially the winners of the competition, are very grateful to the Automobile Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN) for the success of the event”.

The Ethiopian took the overall best driver, followed by Regina and Nigeria’s Khalila Wakama who took third position in the Karting Slalom, while the Ethiopian trio of Regina, Nice and Benedict Hercules went home with first, second and third positions respectively in the digital motorsport category.

In the digital motorsport category, the Ethiopian trio of Regina, Nice and Benedict Hercules went home with first, second and third positions in that order.

The programme which was sponsored by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) had Michael Ango, African president of the Ethics Committee of FIA, among officials that presented trophies to the winners. All participants were presented with certificates of participation.

More than 100 girls from Nigeria and Ethiopia participated in the three-day competition which was spiced with the training of officials on rules and how to officiate karting tracks.

There was also training of about 100 participants from ages 9-16 on rules of the game.

On his part, the ATCN president, Mr. Ishaku Bamayi, said “Girls on Track is a platform for grassroots development of motorsport in Nigeria among girls.”
