GlaxoSmithKline appoints Adodo-Thorpe non-executive director

The Board of Directors of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc (GSK) has announced the appointment of Mrs Oludewa Adodo-Thorpe as a non-executive director on the board of the company.

In a statement issued to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), the company said the appointment will be effective from December 5, 2019.

The statement described Mrs. Adodo-Thorpe as a seasoned corporate and investment lawyer, who graduated with Bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus and a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Lagos and called to the Nigerian Bar in 1979.

She joined the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (NIDB) now Bank of Industry (BOI) after her national service and rose to increasing levels of responsibility until she was appointed the Company Secretary of NIDB Trustees Ltd (BOI Trustees Ltd) before disengaging from the bank.

She commenced active legal practice specialising in Secured Credit Transactions, Corporate & Commercial Law and International Business Transactions.

Apart from running a firm of legal practitioners, she also doubles as the chief executive officer of a firm of company secretaries which handles the corporate meetings and compliance duties of many companies.

Mrs. Adodo-Thorpe is currently the National Secretary of the National Co-ordinating Committee of the Shareholders’ Associations; the body that co-ordinates the activities of the seven zones of the zonal shareholders’ associations.

She is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Capital Market Solicitors Association and the International Bar Association (IBA).

She has attended many conferences of both the IBA & NBA.

She has served the Nigerian Capital Market community in various capacities including: member, Technical Committee for the Review of the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) No. 45 of 1999 and member, Securities and Exchange Commission’s Market-Wide Committee on eDividend.
