The event, tagged: “Agra-Innovate” conference, aimed to showcase potentials in the Nigeria agricultural sector to potential local and international investors.
Speaking at a pre-event press briefing in Lagos, the Project Director of InformaPlc, David Ross, said the importance of the conference cannot be overemphasised because of the ongoing transformation in the Nigerian agribusiness sector.
According to him, Nigerian stood to benefit through exposing investors to the various untapped potentials in the country’s agriculture industry.
Ross lamented lack of appropriate strategy for tapping into the country’s agribusiness sector to create jobs and wealth for the teeming population.
He said: “There is need to bring together a network of partners, exhibitors and investors from across the world to set a new paradigm for the advancement of the Nigerian agribusiness. It is expected that the conference would provide an avenue to channel new discussion for networking, collaboration, and required policy to drive the development of agribusiness in Nigeria.”
He noted that Agra Innovate was constructed around issues critical to sustain the reforms in agriculture and reinvigorate the agriculture sector, current banking and lending environment, develop innovative technologies and partnership models, improve communication, education, infrastructure, market access, investment opportunities and areas of future growth across key value chains.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director, Afrocet Nigeria Ltd, Bryan Pearson, has identified investment opportunities in roof farming, palm oil production and greenhouse facility as some of the untapped areas in Nigeria’s agribusiness.
