Global warming may affect Nigeria’s agricultural activities, economic structure, energy demands and climate vegetation, an expert in atmospheric research, Professor Ibiyinka Fuwape, has warned.
Prof Fuwape spoke in Abuja recently at the 4th biennial International Conference and Exhibition on Environmental Issues (ICEI4), organised by Enviromental Research Group of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, in conjunction with the Centre for Atmospheric Research of the National Space Research and Development Agency (CAR-NASRDA).
The Federal University, Lokoja, atmospheric expert said Nigeria faced effects of global warming on many fronts, warning that if nothing was done by the government to quickly counter them, the negative impacts may be enormous for the country to bear.
 However, the don said Nigeria might not be able to do much to reduce the negative impact of global warming without engaging the industrialised countries.
 Earlier, the Director and Chief Executive of CAR-NASRDA, Prof Babatunde Rabiu, said some communities in Kogi State may be exposed to higher radiation burden from the natural radio nuclides.
 He listed the communities at risk to include: Odogba-Okaba, Salem University, Forest, Nepa, Gerugu, Niger Bridge, Igaliwu, Ijeke-ogane, Bagana and Abegikolo.
