The spirit of camaraderie and nostalgia filled the air as alumni of Government College Bauchi (GOCOBA 95 set) converged for a grand reunion to mark 30 years since their graduation. The event, which drew distinguished professionals from across Nigeria, became a celebration of shared memories, enduring friendships, and renewed commitment to their alma mater.
From warm handshakes to heartfelt laughter, the gathering brought together leaders in healthcare, engineering, public service, and the energy sector, all united by the formative experiences they shared within the walls of Government College Bauchi.
Amongst prominent personalities on ground was Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, Executive Director, Networks, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Head Boy of the graduating set of 1995. He emphasized the importance of strong alumni engagement in sustaining educational institutions and encouraged members to leverage their professional expertise and networks to support infrastructure development, mentorship, and academic excellence at the school.
Dr. Ayuba Zakar, Medical Director of the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, described the reunion as a powerful reminder of the discipline and character instilled during their school years. He urged fellow alumni to channel their unity into tangible support for the college’s development.
Joining virtually, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), paid tribute to former Principal Mr. Aliyu Kamara, whom he hailed as a disciplined educationist whose leadership left a lasting imprint on students. He called on alumni to uphold integrity and accountability in their professional lives.
Also present was CSP Haruna S. Abubakar, 2IC Squadron, Police Mobile Force, Etsako, Edo State, who commended his old friends for their professional accomplishments and encouraged them to remain united in supporting their alma mater. His remarks added to the spirit of solidarity and mutual respect that defined the gathering.
Another notable attendee was Rilwanu Shehu, State Operating Officer of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), Gombe State, who emphasized the need for sustained alumni unity and structured initiatives to strengthen the academic and moral foundations of the institution.
Engr. Isa Mohammed, Deputy Manager, Engineering Design, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), was also among the prominent personalities present, lending his voice to the call for alumni to leverage their expertise in supporting educational growth.
Adding political representation to the gathering was Hon. Ali Baba Manu, Member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, who commended the alumni for their professional achievements and urged them to remain committed to giving back to their alma mater.
The reunion was coordinated by Prof. Auwal A. Mahmoud, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and Chairman of the Central Organising Committee. His efforts in delivering a well-organised and impactful event were widely commended. Prof. Mahmoud urged alumni to institutionalise support mechanisms that would ensure continuous engagement with the school.
As part of the celebration, the alumni visited Government College Bauchi (Kangere) and General Hassan Usman Katsina Bauchi, where they interacted with the school management. These visits reinforced their commitment to reconnect with their roots and contribute to the growth of educational institutions in the region.
Adding emotional depth to the occasion was the presence of former teachers of Government College Bauchi, who expressed pride in the accomplishments of their former students. They reminded alumni to remain guided by the values of discipline, excellence, and service that defined their education.
The reunion concluded with renewed pledges by GOCOBA 95 Alumni to strengthen their association, deepen mentorship efforts, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and legacy of Government College Bauchi.
