The National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Gombe, Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by Abubakar Aliyu and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje.
Aliyu, the senatorial candidate of PDP, was challenging the victory of Senator Goje of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the Gombe Central Senatorial District election conducted on February 25.
Daily Trust reports that Abubakar Aliyu and the PDP petitioned the court to disqualify Goje’s victory because he allegedly contested primary elections under both the PDP and APC.
But the three-man panel of judges led by Justice M.O. Obadina dismissed the petition for lack of merit, saying the court has the same jurisdiction as a federal high court and could not revisit the same case.
