The police in Gombe have arrested a man who fronted as a gold merchant to defraud a woman of the sum of N265,000 and her gold necklace worth N500,000.
The police said the suspect, Mustapha Tanimu, on September 16 conspired with one Danjuma of Damaturu, Yobe State, who is still at large, to collect the money and the 32 grams gold necklace from one Hauwa Usman of Idi quarters, Gombe, under the pretense of being gold merchants.
Arraigned on Friday before Gombe State Magistrate’s Court, the accused denied the two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating brought against him.
In view of his plea, police prosecutor, Sergeant Dahiru Abdullahi, applied for a new date to enable police to complete their investigation.
Chief Magistrate Bello Shariff, in granting the application adjourned the case to October 10 for continuation of hearing and ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody.
