Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets made a flying start to their WAFU-B U17 Championship campaign in Yamoussoukro yesterday thrashing the Baby Cheetahs of Benin Republic 4–1.

A brilliant hat-trick from George Agha and a stunning free-kick from David Edeh sealed an emphatic win for the five-time world champions.

The Eaglets wasted no time asserting dominance. Just three minutes in, Agha converted from the penalty spot after Boluwatife Thompson was brought down in the box. Two minutes later, Edeh doubled the lead with a perfectly executed free-kick that left the Benin goalkeeper rooted.

By the 14th minute, Agha struck again, finishing off a sweeping move to give coach Manu Garba’s side a commanding 3–0 cushion. The teenager completed his hat-trick in the 32nd minute, capitalising on a lapse in judgment by Benin’s goalkeeper Warris Soumanou after a slick exchange between Thompson and Edeh.

Benin managed a consolation on the stroke of half-time when Jeremy Zannou fired a low drive beyond the Nigerian goalkeeper to make it 4–1.

The Golden Eaglets’ dominant display sends a strong message to their regional rivals as they chase another WAFU-B crown.
