Most residents of Gombe State are in a state of euphoria as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya approved the dismissal of four aides over an assault on the Councillor representing Shamaki Ward on Gombe LGA, Hon. Abdulrahman Abubakar Sharif.
Many people applauded Governor Yahaya after his deliberation resulted in the dismissal of the four aides who assaulted Hon. Sharif.
One of the sacked aides, Adamu Abdullahi Danko, was caught on camera assaulting Hon. Sharif over an alleged conspiracy to attack his boss, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Kari, the Chief of Staff to the governor.
The incident raised concerns among citizens, who described it as a “deplorable act” and urged the government’s prompt investigation and intervention into the issue.
Following the investigation, the governor approved the immediate disengagement of four aides: Adamu Abdullahi Danko (Senior Special Assistant II, Domestic), Garba Mohammed Mai Rago (Senior Special Assistant II, Political), Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar (Senior Special Assistant II, Social Media) and Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya (Senior Special Assistant II, Community Relations).
The governor’s spokesperson, Ismail Uba Misilli, disclosed the governor’s decision, stating that it followed the constitution of a special committee to probe the incident.
He said, “The findings of the committee, which were further corroborated by security agencies’ reports, informed the governor’s action.” The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, conveyed the decision, stating that the aides’ disengagement took immediate effect. Misilli said Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, misconduct and abuse of office, stressing that actions capable of threatening public peace or undermining confidence in government would not be condoned.
He assured the people of Gombe of his government’s commitment to the rule of law, accountability and peaceful coexistence, adding that decisive measures would always be taken to safeguard public order and sustain the state’s hard-earned stability.
