The Gombe State Basketball Association has reaffirmed its support for the Gombe City League Basketball Championship as preparations intensify for the third edition of the competition.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the tournament organisers to the Chairman of the Gombe State Basketball Association, Alhaji Ibrahim Gimba, to seek the association’s support and guidance ahead of the 2026 championship.
The delegation was led by the championship convener, Nura Haruna, and accompanied by Nasiru Mohammed Buba.
Speaking during the visit, Gimba commended the organisers for their dedication to the development of basketball in Gombe State, describing the championship as an important platform for discovering and nurturing young talents.
“Do not hesitate to do what is right for the development of basketball. Do not be discouraged in your efforts because one day you will be proud of what you have achieved,” he said.
He added that the championship would provide young players with the opportunity to develop their skills, gain valuable competitive experience and realise their full potential.
The organisers said preparations for the tournament were in progress but noted that a date for the competition had yet to be fixed, as consultations were still ongoing to determine the number of participating teams.
Now in its third edition, the Gombe City League Basketball Championship has continued to promote grassroots basketball development in the state by providing emerging players with a platform to showcase their talents and pursue higher levels of competition.
