The Gombe State Government has approved the release of N5 billion as its contribution toward the take-off of a regional airline to be jointly floated by the six north-east states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe.

The approval was disclosed on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji, at the end of the 51st State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Gambo Magaji said the governors of the six north-east states had agreed to establish the regional airline to enhance air connectivity within and outside the sub-region and stimulate economic development.

He explained that each participating state is to contribute N5 billion, adding that the council had approved Gombe State’s share of the funds.

The commissioner also announced the approval of N321 million for compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing construction of an underpass and other road projects across the Special Development Zone.

On education, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Aishatu Umar Maigari, disclosed that N661.5 million was approved for the payment of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees for 23,873 students across the state.
