Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State has approved the appointment of 760 graduates into the state civil service to teach in senior secondary schools.

 Speaking after issuing the newly recruited teachers with their appointment letters, Governor Dankwambo said their appointment would drastically reduce the shortage of teachers in many subjects.

 He said since the inception of his administration in 2011, the education sector had witnessed tremendous transformation both in terms of infrastructure, teaching facilities and quality of teaching staff.

 “Upon assumption in 2011, we declared a state of emergency in the education sector and made education our priority. We have recruited more than 2,000 teachers, constructed and expanded all the existing primary and secondary schools in the state,” he said.

 He told the teachers that government would not condone laziness, indiscipline and absenteeism.

 Earlier, Chairman of the Teachers’ Service Commission, Mr. Johnny Soji Yari, said the commission had promoted 1, 500 teachers to various grade levels between 2012 and 2017.
