Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, has flagged off the distribution of 65 trucks of fertiliser containing 39,370 bags to constituents across the zone.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Gombe, Senator Goje, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), said the initiative was aimed at revitalising agriculture and enhancing food security.

He explained that the intervention would support farmers during the wet season amid rising production costs.

Represented by his aide, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu, the senator disclosed that 23 beneficiaries were selected from each of the 869 polling units in Akko and Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Areas, regardless of political affiliation.

He added that stakeholders from the 22 political wards, including community leaders, religious groups, elders, women and youth groups, as well as farmers across the two LGAs, were also captured in the distribution plan.

According to him, the 39,370 bags of fertiliser were procured specifically to cushion the impact of soaring input costs and to ease the burden experienced by farmers during the previous farming season.

“Sixty-five trucks of fertiliser totalling 39,370 bags were purchased for free distribution to our constituents. The gesture is meant to bring relief to them during the wet season farming, especially with the current skyrocketing prices of commodities,” he said.

Adamu noted that the intervention reflected Senator Goje’s commitment to empowering his constituents economically and promoting self-reliance in food production. He stressed that the fertilisers were distributed free of charge and without consideration for party differences.

He further explained that the early distribution, ahead of the peak of the rainy season, was designed to ensure timely access to inputs and boost agricultural productivity across Gombe Central.
