Gombe State has become the first beneficiary of a digital police station project designed to strengthen crime detection, criminal tracking and law enforcement operations through technology.

The project, implemented through a partnership between Galaxy Backbone and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), is expected to enhance policing through the use of biometric data, cloud technology and digital case management systems.

Speaking during the commissioning, Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the initiative would enable law enforcement agencies to maintain a central database of criminal records and improve information sharing across states.

He explained that suspects’ fingerprints and facial images could be captured and stored digitally, allowing security agencies to cross-reference records with national databases and track criminals more effectively.

“Case files can now be managed digitally, making it easier to monitor investigations and identify suspects, even when they move from one state to another,” he said.

Adeyanju added that the cloud-based system would ensure that information remains accessible through computers, mobile phones and other digital devices regardless of location.

Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, described the project as a major step towards modernising policing in Nigeria.

He said security agencies must embrace technology to meet the demands of contemporary security challenges.

“We are moving into a digital age, and it is important that the Nigerian Police Force is equipped for 21st-century policing. This facility is a model of what modern policing should look like,” he said.

Also speaking, Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu, stressed the importance of police welfare alongside technological advancement.

He noted that residential accommodation for rank-and-file officers was also commissioned, adding that improved welfare would boost officers’ morale and productivity.
