The 25th edition of  Gombe State Qur’an Recitation Competition was declared open yesterday in Dukku LGA by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.  

Daily Trust on Sunday  learnt that the  event has 393 contestants from 11 local government areas of the state.

While declaring the competition open, Governor Yahaya pledged that his administration would continue to support both western and religious education.

He said it was in line with his commitment to the sector.

Yahaya added that that the state government established 676 educational centres across the state under the Basic Education for All (BESDA) programmes.

He said through the  programme, thousands of out of school children were mopped up from the streets and enrolled into the centres to acquire formal education.

Earlier, the Chairman of the state Qur’an Recitation Competition Committee, Justice Muhammad Inuwa Gombe, explained that the competition was an annual event with the objective to discipline and uplift the moral behaviour of the Muslim youth.
